NOTE: This marker is inaccurate. The scholar Kate Clifford Lawson in Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman, Portrait of an American Hero (2004) has found archival evidence that Harriet Tubman made thirteen trips to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and led approximalete 70 people to freedom. Tubman also gave instructions to another fifty or sixty who made their own way north. Visit the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center in Church Creek, Maryland, for exhibits and interactive installations that trace Tubman's life story.
